The department manages 39 facilities including recreation centers, senior centers, and indoor and outdoor aquatic facilities and provides thousands of programs such as out-of-school activities, aquatics, classes, youth and adult sports programs and leagues, senior programs, and therapeutic recreation.
WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR
Montgomery County Recreation is seeking a Performance Management and Data Analyst I to support the department in measuring, analyzing, and improving program performance. This role will be responsible for collecting, analyzing, and interpreting data related to recreation programs, services, and operations to drive decision-making and ensure that departmental goals are met efficiently and effectively.
What You'll Be Doing
As the Performance Management Data Analyst I, you will:
Data Collection & Analysis: Collect, compile, and analyze performance data from various recreation programs, services, and activities.
Performance Reporting: Prepare reports, dashboards, and visualizations to track key performance indicators (KPIs), operational metrics, and trends to inform strategic decisions.
Process Improvement: Provide data-driven recommendations to improve program effectiveness, efficiency, and customer satisfaction.
Data Management: Maintain and update databases, spreadsheets, and other data management tools to ensure the integrity and accuracy of information.
Collaboration: Work closely with program managers and leadership to align performance metrics with departmental goals and strategies.
Customer Insights: Use data to understand customer preferences, feedback, and trends to support the development and enhancement of recreation programs.
Support Decision Making: Assist in strategic planning efforts by providing data insights and projections based on past performance and trends.
Program Eligibility and Compliance Review: Reviewing and analyzing applications for various departmental programs to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with applicable guidelines and policies.
To be a successful Performance Management Data Analyst I, you must be:
- Proficient in data analysis software (e.g., Excel, SQL, Power BI, Tableau).
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Experience with performance management tools and systems.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present data findings to diverse audiences. Ability to manage multiple tasks, work independently, and meet deadlines.

Minimum Qualifications
Experience : Two (2) years of professional experience performing data analysis and interpretation, program evaluation, and/or process improvement in an academic, data administration or business data analytics environment.
Education : Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's Degree in Information Systems, Information Technology, Computer Science, Operations Research, Business Administration, Economics, Public Administration, Public Policy, Management, Finance, Statistics, Engineering or related field.
Equivalency :
An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted.
Possession of a graduate degree in the above fields may be substituted for one year of the required experience.
Preferred Criteria, Interview Preferences
We will use interview preference criteria: Strong written and verbal communications skills for data storytelling.
Experience translating and interpreting data to report actionable business insights.
Experience establishing dashboards, semantic models, and reports through PowerBI.
Experience establishing Excel data models, pivot tables, visual charts, and pivot charts.
Familiarity analysing large data sets establishing and creating visualization tools to identify trends and patterns.
Ability to generate, clean, and interpret large datasets

Leave Benefits
Our generous leave package starts with non-MLS permanent and term employees earning 15 days of sick leave and 15 days of annual leave in their first year, as well as up to three additional personal days each calendar year. Positions in MLS earn 35 days of paid time off each year. In addition, we offer all employees 10 paid holidays.
